Garcia hits "intervention" by vice governors' league
CEBU, Philippines – Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia warned yesterday the Vice Governors' League of the Philippines not to intervene in the problems of the province.
The governor reacted to the Vice Governor Gregorio Sanchez's seeking of assistance from the league, which is set to pass a resolution protesting the alleged en-croachment of the executive department on the duties of the legislative department.
"I already warned the Vice Governors' League not to get involved in the intramurals going on here," she said.
Last Tuesday, the league met at the office of Sanchez, discussing the issue between him and the governor.
Sanchez even wrote a letter to league president Leonidos Fausto explaining the alleged harassment by the executive branch.
He accused the governor's office of removing from his office the authority to sign checks and other documents.
According to Garcia, Sanchez's move to seek assistance from the league only shows his miserable situation.
"As I said, I warned the officers of the VGL not to allow themselves to be drawn into the intramurals of this province because it has nothing to do at all with their league. You are stretching it too far when you say basig maka-apektar ni namo. Unsaon man nako pag-apektar ang bise gobernador sa Tuguegarao ug sa Kalinga Apayao?" she said.
The governor also said that the league of governors will also pass a resolution supporting her, and if this happens, there will be chaos between the two leagues.
"This might bear for careful analysis from the officers of VGL because this could get messy. Pero dili ko ingon ana nga magpalaban sa liga," she told reporters, adding that as the governor, she can very well defend all her actions.
The VGL president and three of his members will meet with the governor this morning to discuss the issue. (FREEMAN)
