CEBU, Philippines - A laborer was shot dead past 9pm in Sitio Panaghiusa, Barangay Basak San Nicolas the other night.

The victim was identified as Gilber Abellar, 32, single, a resident in the area.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim together with his live-in partner Merry Cris Abanes were standing in front of their residence around 9:40pm when suddenly the suspect approached them and shot Abellar on the head.

The victim was rushed by neighbors to the Cebu City Medical Center, but was declared dead on arrival.

The suspect, identified as a certain Jay Ebessa, immediately fled after the shooting.

Abanes told authorities that Ebessa allegedly harbored ill feelings against the victim over personal matters.

In another incident, an 18-year-old man was shot dead by still unidentified suspects at the fish port in Barangay Sawang Calero about 10:30 the other night.

The victim was identified as Aurelio Cuizon, a resident of Block 3, Barangay Suba, Cebu City.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim went to the area to attend a dance. Later, he reportedly went to the seawall to urinate and was shot by the suspect there. He was hit on his left shoulder and at the back.

He was rushed to CCMC, but was also declared dead on arrival.

Cuizon’s mother told authorities her son’s friend, a certain Jonas, was the one who fetched the victim from their house prior to the incident.

Follow-up investigations are being conducted on the two incidents. (THE FREEMAN)
