AFP holds youth summit in Argao
CEBU, Philippines - The Armed Forces of the Philippines through the 78th Infantry Battalion organized its first ever Youth Leadership Summit in Argao town.
The three-day event, which ended yesterday, was aimed at teaching young leaders the importance of leadership, spirituality, protecting the environment and consequences of using illegal drugs.
Military officials who spoke in the summit also taught participants how to avoid getting swayed by militant groups to join participate in actions against the government.
1st Lieutenant Gomar Pipit said they specifically chose participants between 15 to 25 years old because it is in these crucial ages they need to learn the value of the issues aforementioned.
The summit was attended by officers of student councils, fraternities, and even out-of-school youth of Argao and its neighboring towns. Pipit said the event was successful not only because of the attendance but also because of the support given by Argao Mayor Edsel Galeos. He said the town’s officials were the ones who first welcomed the summit.
Pipit said they are eyeing to bring the summit next to Toledo City, although details are yet to be finalized.
The event was held at the Diosdado Macapagal Arroyo gymnasium in Barangay Poblacion. (THE FREEMAN)
