Drunk man stabs cop, gets shot

CEBU, Philippines - A policeman was injured after he got stabbed on the shoulder by a drunk person he was trying to subdue in Barangay Punong, Samboan town last Saturday evening.

 Police Officer 2 Catalino Ricablanca was wounded when Manuel Balbuena, Jr. stabbed him with his knife. Balbuena also got shot on the right foot by Ricablanca using his M-16 Armalite rifle.

Ricablanca together with some of his fellow policemen from Samboan Police Station responded to a drunk person alarm last Saturday. Balbuena, armed with a knife, allegedly went wild.

Ricablanca tried to pacify Balbuena but the latter allegedly resisted and stabbed the policeman. The policeman was forced to shoot Balbuena in the foot to neutralize him.

Cebu Provincial Police Office chief Erson Digal immediately ordered an investigation on the incident. Ricablanca may also be investigated after the family of Balbuena filed a complaint against him. (THE FREEMAN)
