Consolacion leans on NGOs as it tries to alleviate poverty
CEBU, Philippines – Consolacion town is asking different non-governmental organizations, people's organizations, and the business sector to lend a hand as the town attempts to alleviate poverty.
Mayor Teresa Alegado made the announcement in a meeting with representatives of Non-Governmental Organizations, People's Organization and the business sector, mostly based in the different barangays in Consolacion.
Alegado said she believes in the important role NGO's, PO's, and the business sector play in addressing problems and concerns of people from the barangays.
Alegado said poverty alleviation is her priority in her first 100 days, starting with the introduction of livelihood programs, help improve education, and strengthen the different departments of the municipal government.
Alegado said she will closely coordinate with the Department of Agriculture for the implementation of livelihood projects.
The central office of the agriculture department has reportedly assured her of P50 million for the livelihood projects.
She said the livelihood projects will depend the needs of her constituents, especially the farmers and fishermen.
Alegado said she is also looking at different national agencies which can help the town. (THE FREEMAN)
