- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines – A former informant of the Cebu City Police Office was shot dead along MJ Cuenco Avenue in Barangay Mabolo around 9pm last Monday.

Jose Yu alias Tatay, who also worked as striker or errand man of the Mabolo Police Station, was killed allegedly in connection to the illegal drugs trade. Yu was a resident of Casal's Village in Barangay Mabolo.

Investigation showed that the victim was walking along the road in Sitio Estacionan when an unidentified gunman waylaid him and shot him several times.

Three men who reportedly stayed across the road acted as backup and fled together with the gunman right after the shooting.

Paramedics of the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation declared Yu dead.

Spot investigation showed that the victim was discovered lying on his back with gunshot wounds on his chest and back.

Three empty shells of a caliber .45 pistol were recovered from the crime scene. A mobile phone with charger, a black wallet containing P70, and a wrist watch were also found in the area.

Yu's remains were taken to the St. Francis Funeral Homes.

City Police Director Senior Supt. Patrocinio Comendador said the victim used to be an informant of the police, but was no longer considered active when he reportedly started using prohibited drugs. (THE FREEMAN)
