Aboitiz to receive doctorate degree in business management

CEBU, Philippines - The University of San Jose- Recoletos (USJ-R) is set to confer the degree of Doctor of Science in Business Management (Honoris Causa) upon Roberto Aboitiz, in recognition of his invaluable contributions to business and humanitarian endeavors.

The recipient is one whose stature is extraordinary, according to Milagros Espina, the former dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and now the school’s public and media relations officer.

“He really reached a certain magnitude of achievement,” Espina added.

Aboitiz, who is the present Honorary Consul of the Netherlands and Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau, holds various companies. He is the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Aboitiz Construction Group Inc.-Metaphil. He also holds the positions of director of several companies like the Aboitiz and Company Inc., Aboitiz Equity Ventures Inc., Aboitiz Inc., Cebu Industrial Park Development Inc., City Savings Bank, Tsuneishi Heavy Industry Inc., and Aboitiz Foundation.

As an executive, Aboitiz shares three most important lessons he learned – hardwork, true to the values you hold and people matters.

Many institutions have already recognized him for his advocacy on culture of excellence in carrying out his life works.

In March 2008, he received the Doctor of Humanities, Honoris Causa and the Perlas Awardee for valuable leader in youth and community development.

In January 2009, he was conferred the Knighthood in the Order of Orange Nassaue by Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.

Aboitiz continues to advocate his “bugsay principle” that inspires others to do their best.

As president of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation or RAFI, he integrates his development framework of partnership, linkages and belief that development is possible when there is collaboration from all sectors.

Aboitiz is the fourth recipient of the Honoris Causa title, where the university chooses the usual requirements bestow honor to individual who touch the lives of the people.

The conferment ceremonies will be held on August 19 at the Center for the Performing Arts. (THE FREEMAN)
