Yapha wary of multicab offer from Tomas

- Mylen P. Manto -

CEBU, Philippines - Former Pinamungajan mayor Jeffrey Yapha, who now sits as the town’s vice mayor, said they will first study closely the reported offer of Cebu City South District Rep. Tomas Yapha to give them a multicab.

Earlier news reports had said that Osmeña, former Cebu City mayor, is willing to help the barangays in the province whose multicabs were recalled by Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.

Barangays in Pinamungajan and Tuburan towns were among the places whose multicabs were recalled after the elections. The multicabs, owned by the Cebu Provincial Government, were allegedly used for political activities during the campaign period.

“We will examine it first because we know Osmeña and Garcia had a war. And it’s not easy to be in the middle of their war so we better discuss it,” Yapha said in an interview with reporters yesterday.

Osmeña had a long standing quarrel with Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia when he was still Cebu City mayor. Their rift started with the failed negotiations to swap a city-owned property at the North Reclamation Area with the province-owned lots occupied by City residents in 11 barangays. The conflict led to other clashes in various issues.

“Among studyhan og maayo if kinsa ma’y mohatag para sa among lungsod dili mi magpataka og dawat kay tingali maka-damage hinuon siya sa among lungsod,” said Yapha. (We won’t accept donations just from any one as it might just bring more harm than good.)

Gov. Garcia, for her part, wondered why Osmeña will distribute multicabs to places outside his jurisdiction, but she said it’s alright if he does. (THE FREEMAN)
