Liberal Party prepares for league elections

- Jose P. Sollano -

CEBU, Philippines – The newly elected municipal and city councilors in Cebu Province under the Liberal Party will meet today to discuss their preparations for the incoming elections of the leagues for councilors and mayors.

Vice Gov. Gregorio Sanchez Jr. told reporters that the meeting today is also part of the party's plan to strengthen their group in Cebu province.

Sanchez said that former Cebu City councilor Hilario Davide III, as provincial chairman of the party, will preside over the meeting.

The One Cebu Party is expected to field Dumanjug Mayor Nelson Garcia, brother of Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, for the presidential contest of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Cebu Chapter.

The daughter of former mayor and now Danao City vice mayor Ramon "Nito" Durano III, Carmen Durano-Meca, also announced her interest to seek the presidential post for the Philippine Councilors League (PCL)-Cebu.

Sanchez, on the other hand, said he will not pre-empt the decision of the Liberal Party but assured that they will participate in the elections of the leagues.

As they belong to the administration party of President Aquino, Sanchez said there's a need for them to show that Aquino has party members in Cebu.

"Nindot kaayo ang mga programa karon sa atong bag-ong Presidente nga si Noynoy ug importante usab kaayo nga katabangan nato siya sa iyang mga programa," said Sanchez. (Aquino has very good programs and it is important that we support these.) (THE FREEMAN)
