Durano, Gullas families unite for PCL elections

CEBU, Philippines - Two prominent political clans in Cebu are teaming up for the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) Cebu Province elections.

This as Danao City Councilor Remedios Durano-Meca and Talisay City Councilor Eduardo ‘Digul’ Gullas III have agreed to run for president and vice president, respectively, of the organization in their elections set next month.

Durano-Meca is the daughter of Danao City Vice Mayor Ramon ‘Nito’ Durano III while Gullas is the grandson of Cebu First District Rep. Eduardo R. Gullas.

The president of the organization will get a seat in the Provincial Board as ex-officio member along with the Provincial President of the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation and the Association of Barangay Councils.

Currently, the PB seat is being held by Consolacion Councilor Alfred Francis Ouano, whose father, PB Member Thadeo Ouano represents the 6th District in the legislative body.

The FREEMAN tried to contact the younger Ouano for his comment on this development, but failed.

He held the position for two straight terms.

Meca and Gullas visited Governor Gwendolyn Garcia yesterday to bare their intent. They were accompanied by their fellow councilors from Danao and Talisay.

Danao City Councilor John Cane told The FREEMAN that they gathered the full support from the councilors of the different cities and municipalities of Cebu province for the Meca-Gullas tandem.

Cane said the camp of Meca and Gullas met Ouano the other day to discuss the next month’s election.

According to Cane, Ouano may aspire for the top position of the Philippine Councilors League to give way the candidacy of Durano-Meca.

Cane said they believe that with Meca and Gullas at the helm of the provincial organization of the town and city councilors, this will be good for them.

Meca is the fifth child of their brood that includes Cebu 5th District Rep. Ramon ‘Red’ Durano V and former Tourism Secretary Joseph Ace Durano. She is on her second term as local legislator.

Gullas is the youngest councilor elected last May 10 at the age of 18 years old. He is the child of Gerald Anthony Gullas, the only child of the congressman.

If Meca makes it to the helm of the PCL-Cebu Province, she becomes the third member of her family to be in the PB alongside her aunt Agnes Durano-Magpale and cousin Jude Durano Sybico.     (FREEMANNEWS)
