In Minglanilla, a motorcycle driver was killed after he was run over by a 10-wheeler truck when he lost control of his vehicle and fell to the road.

According to the police, Juanito Sumagang Jr., living in Barangay Cabangcalan, Bulacao Pardo, Cebu City was immediately brought to Minglanilla District Hospital but did not make it there alive.

The victim was reportedly driving along the national highway in Sitio Sangi, Barangay Calajo-an, Minglanilla on his way south from Cebu City when he suddenly overtook the Isuzu 10-wheeler truck.

After he overtook the truck, Sumagang was allegedly caught off-guard and lost control of his motorcycle when the vehicle ahead him suddenly turned left towards a carwash establishment.

Sumagang was reportedly thrown away from his motorcycle, fell on the road and was ran over by the tailing truck driven by Porferio Lore Gerardo Jr., 32, residents of Barangay San Benito, Calatrava, Negros Occidental.

The 10-wheeler truck was owned and registered under the name of Leonardo Mike Cabildo with registered address at Barangay Poblacion, North La Libertad, Negros Oriental.

Meanwhile, in Lilo-an, a 63-year-old pedestrian also died after he was hit by a speeding passenger jeepney while he was crossing the highway in Barangay Poblacion.

Martinez Antolijao Libut-libut, a resident of Barangay Catarman, Lilo-an was accidentally bumped by a Suzuki multi-cab bearing plate numbers GWS 554 bound for Compostela and driven by John Huerte Manatad, 24.

SPO2 Marcelino Servilla told The FREEMAN that no one was able to see the incident. Witnesses said that they just heard a loud bang and saw the victim on the road.

“Wala gyud nakakita sa maong pag-bangga. Wala pud makasulti kung kusug ba ang padagan sa maong multi-cab apan kung basihan nato ang damage na naangkon sa multi-cab ug sa biktima, makaingon ko na possible na kusug-kusug ang padagan sa drayber,” Servilla added.

The multi-cab, which is registered under the name of Graciosa S. Perez, has a broken windshield and dent because of the incident.

Manatad will be facing charge of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide.
