VSMMC gets 200 mattresses, 100 pillows from German firm

CEBU, Philippines - German furniture manufacturer Dedon in partnership with Uratex Multimax Foam Industries yesterday donated 200 mattresses and 100 pillows to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

Love Joy Maguikay, Corporate Affairs Manager of Dedon, said they chose VSMMC as beneficiary of the project after a visit to the hospital gave them a picture of the real situation thereat. Maguikay said there was one instances when they saw four mothers occupying one bed.

Dedon representatives visited the hospital through the intervention of Dr. Mercedita Armadilla, consultant ob-gyne of VSMMC. Armadilla is a friend of Bobby Decayser, owner of Dedon.

Maguikay said they intend to continue helping VSMMC, considering that this is the first time that they have chosen the hospital as beneficiary.

Maguikay said that aside from donations, the company has also initiated feeding programs and other community services like their housing projects in Lapu-Lapu City and Talisay City. With the help of Fr. Heinz Kuluke of the University of San Carlos, they are reportedly looking at adopting the housing project to benefit scavengers at the Omapad dumpsite in Mandaue City. – Jessan Guillemer and Karen Joy Vicentillo /JMO (THE FREEMAN)
