Search for outstanding volunteers launched

- Mellanie Joy C. Rosales -

CEBU, Philippines - The Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) once again opens the nomination for the outstanding volunteer for 2010 who has exemplary performance and dedication to service of individual Filipino volunteers and institutions undertaking volunteer work.

PNVSCA launches the 2010 Nationwide Search for Outstanding Volunteer (SOV) which is the highlight of the celebration of the National Volunteer Month (NVM) held every December.

In a press release, the group said the annual search is crafted in order “to build a nationwide public awareness and appreciation of volunteerism and its role in national development through building strong communities across the country.”

The search is open to all individuals of Filipino citizenship and Filipino volunteer organizations or local chapter organizations of foreign volunteer organizations that currently provide volunteer assistance in the Philippines.

PNVSCA is a government agency mandated to promote and coordinate volunteer programs and services in the Philippines.

It was created as a committee in 1964 to concretize the Philippine Government’s   commitment to the agreement reached during the International Middle Level Manpower Conference held in Puerto Rico in 1962 adopting volunteerism as a tool for socio-economic development.

PNVSCA closely works with other government agencies, non-government organizations, the academe, the corporate group, the media and other partners in converging and linking the different volunteering efforts and resources so that they are aligned with national priorities and assist especially the marginalized sectors and communities.  PNVSCA takes the lead in advocating and recognizing the contributions of volunteers to nation-building and international cooperation.

There will be two types of awards: for the individual and for the organization that will be given under the National Outstanding Volunteer Award (NOVA).

A person that engages in an activity or activities that involves spending time on his/her own free will, doing activities that aims to benefit the community or the environment and not primarily for financial gain is the person who is eligible for the individual award that is classified into youth and adult.

Those who are interested to nominate candidate to the SOV, you may inquire at the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA-7) and look for Ms. Lourdes Vale.

NEDA is the secretariat of the Regional Steering Committee created under the PNVSCA Steering Committee for the NVM.

Nominations should be submitted not later than August 12, 2010.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
