2 drivers survive Toledo road crash

CEBU, Philippines - Another vehicular accident occurred in Toledo City early yesterday morning, but the good news is that no one was hurt in the incident.

PO3 Julius Sanchez, traffic investigator in Toledo City, said the accident in Barangay Upper Media Once involved a dump truck and a service truck of the Visayan Electric Company. The incident reportedly occurred when the two vehicles were negotiating a blind curve.

Sanchez said the VECO service vehicle driven by Balfred Lapano was traveling downhill around 7am for Cebu City when it met the dump truck driven by Maximo Payusam at a blind curve. Lapano lost control of the vehicle because the breaks reportedly malfunctioned. To avoid plummeting into a ditch by the road, Lapano chose to hit Payusam’s truck.

“Ang service truck sa VECO kay padulhog nya ang dump truck kay paingon tungas.” Sanchez said.

The gully was estimated to be 10 meters wide and 30 feet deep.

Both drivers were unhurt, but the vehicles were damaged with the windshield of the VECO service truck broken.

Just last Saturday, 15 people died while 48 others were injured after the bus they were riding lost its breaks and grazed against a concrete wall while negotiating a blind curve at Barangay Don Andres Soriano (formerly Lutopan) also in Toledo City.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
