PHSA offers scholarships for school year 2011-2012

CEBU, Philippines - A government-run secondary school for the artistically gifted and talented young individuals is offering scholarships for school year 2011-2012.

The Philippine High School for the Arts (PHSA) in Mandaue City is presently screening applicants.

Scholars will be given special training in the different fields of dance (ballet and folk dance), creative writing, music, theater, and the visual arts.

The scholarship is open to all graduating grade six students in public and private schools, and must not be older than 15 years old upon enrollment.

PHSA scholars are entitled to free tuition, free board and lodging, and a monthly allowance. They will also have the chance to represent the country in international competitions.

This nationwide search for outstanding scholars aims to identify and develop artistic and talented teenagers by implementing a special secondary education curriculum and support programs to provide the country with a continuing source of artists of excellence and leaders in the conservation and promotion of the Filipino artistic and cultural traditions. — Razel V.
