CEBU, Philippines - Assigning 24 committees and districts to 15 councilors on the first regular session of the 12th Lapu-Lapu City council was decided yesterday afternoon.
The equity of the incumbent applies in the assignment of committee chairmanships.
Vice Mayor Marcial Ycong, the council presiding officer, holds the committee on social services and senior citizens.
He was the chairman of this committee while councilor in the previous city council.
Ycong said most of the senior councilors hold two to three chairmanships.
The following are the committee chairmanships and the corresponding chairmen:
• finance and appropriation - Melissa Dignos Vidal
• education, culture, heritage and historical affairs - Eduardo Cuizon
• health and hospital services - Cornelio Pahang
• infrastructure, public works, urban planning and housing - Florito Pozon
• laws and human rights - Florito Pozon
• market and abbatoir - Alexander Gestopa
• environment and natural resources - Alexander Gestopa
• barangay affairs - Leo Mercado
• cooperative and livelihood - Leo Mercado
• women, children and family relations - Quennie Amman
• business and industry, energy and power - Melissa Vidal
• ethics, good government, transparency and accountability - Efren Herrera
• transportation and communication- Eduardo Cuizon
• games and amusement - Leo Mercado
• youth and development - Reymar Mercado
• police, fire and penology - Rodolfo Potot
• dangerous drugs, drug abuse and drug trafficking - Rodolfo Potot
Newly elected councilors Harry Radaza was assigned the committee on sports and development, and tourism and international relations; Roque Wagwag got the committee on urban poor and cultural minorities while Eduardo Patalinghug got the committee on accreditation.
Councilor Roque Wagwag did not get any committee chairmanship but he is the vice-chairperson and members of several committees.
The district assignments were given according to their respective barangays, where they reside.
There are 30 barangays in Lapu-Lapu City. — THE FREEMAN
