Habal-habal driver killed in Barili

CEBU, Philippines - A driver of a motorcycle for hire in Barili, Cebu was stabbed to death by a fellow driver yesterday morning.

Wilson Cabanatuan, 30, succumbed to four fatal stab wounds in the different parts of his body after his fellow habal-hahal driver, Arnel Alquizar, stabbed him using a “flaminko” or an improvised knife.

The incident happened in Barangay Cagay, Barili at 7:00 a.m. yesterday. Police investigation showed that the victim was driving his motorcycle on his way home when the suspect flagged him down.

After the victim’s motorcycle come to a complete stop, the suspect without any provocation immediate thrust his “flaminko” towards Cabanatuan killing the latter instantaneously.

PO3 Job Sarvida of the Barili police said the victim was rushed to the Barili District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Alquizar later surrendered at the police station.

Alquizar claimed that he was prompted to kill Cabanatuan because the latter also threatened to kill him for standing as witness in a case against him.

“Ang victim, allegedly mibahad daw niya na ‘bantay lang ka’. Naa ma’y kaso nga gi-file against sa victim wherein ang suspect isa sa mga witnesses. Gi-unhan na lang niya ug patay,” Sarvida said.

The suspect will be charged for murder today before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
