Human bones found in Buhisan

- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines - Residents discovered a human’s skeletal remains in a forested area in the mountainous part of Barangay Buhisan, Cebu City last Wednesday.

Items such as white blouse with flower prints, black jacket and maroon underwear were also found near the remains in Sitio Linsa near the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-7 office in the area.

Alejandra General, 51, and Jessie Kamansi, 16, who are residents of the nearby sitio, were the ones who discovered the remains.

They were allegedly gathering firewood in the area around 4 p.m. when they saw the bones, prompting them to run and report the matter to their neighbors.

Barangay tanods led by Ronald Legaspi verified the report and found the remains at 9 a.m. the following day.

Policemen who responded to the area found the remains scattered and recovered the items nearby. The remains, which are still complete from head to toe, were taken to St. Francis Funeral Homes and will be subjected to a post mortem examination by Dr. Nestor Sator of the PNP Crime Laboratory 7.

The items recovered near the bones are now in the custody of the Crime Scene Investigation Unit of the Cebu City Police Office.

Sator, in an interview with The FREEMAN, said that if a dead person is left in the open, especially on the ground, his or her body decomposes faster. Factors such as bacteria, insects, including the weather, among others, hasten the decomposition of the cadaver, he added. — THE FREEMAN
