Man gets eight years for frustrated murder

-

CEBU, Philippines - The Regional Trial Court sentenced a man to eight years in jail after he was proven to have attempted to kill his neighbor’s live-in partner.

Judge Gabriel Ingles also ordered Rosalito Parame of Biasong, Talisay City to pay the victim, Ranel Sanchez, P40,000 for actual and moral damages.

In his decision, Ingles said the testimonies of the victim and the witnesses were credible enough to prove that Parame is guilty of frustrated murder.

In his testimony in court, Sanchez said he was in Central Biasong about 10am on April 27, 2008 with his friends when Parame passed by them. When Parame reached his house just a few meters away, the suspect reportedly fired his gun into the air and went back to them.

Sanchez said the suspect pointed a gun at him and asked who is brave and a member of the Kuratong gang. When he replied that he did not know, Parame fired his gun and hit Sanchez on the left jaw.

Parame then attempted a second a shot, but his gun did not work, which gave Sanchez the chance to punch the suspect.

Sanchez companions rushed the victim to the Talisay District Hospital, but he was later transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for further treatment.

Sanchez’ live-in partner, Irene Parojinog, told the court she was washing clothes at their house when she heard two gunshots. When she went out to verify, she reportedly saw Parame walking away with his shirt stained with blood. She then saw Sanchez with a wound on the left side of his face.

Parojinog said they immediately reported the incident to the Talisay City Police Station after Parema fled away.  (FREEMAN NEWS)
