CEBU, Philippines - Vice Governor Gregorio Sanchez Jr. calls for unity as he took his oath yesterday before Regional Trial Court executive judge Meinrado Paredes at the Mariners Court Cebu.
Sanchez said elections are over and now is the time to stop being “overly-political addicts.”
“Let us blend and mix our political colors (yellow, green, orange, and others) into a beautiful combination of legendary rainbow indicating harmonious unity,” Sanchez said.
According to him, after today all winners in the last elections shall have taken their oath already, which means that all of them have the work to begin.
“Let us start making bridges connecting us and also start breaking down the walls of division between us,” Sanchez said.
Sanchez urged the Cebuanos to be one with his fight against corruption in the province and that of President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III for the entire country.
Unlike the One Cebu Party oath taking last Monday where it was outgoing President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo administered, Sanchez’s oath taking was very simple.
He took his oath before Paredes and administered the oath of his lone ally in the provincial board, PB member Arleigh Sitoy, Mayors-elect Jun Diamante and Antonio Canoy of Tuburan and San Fernando, respectively.
There were also few vice mayors and councilors under the Liberal Party from the different municipalities who took their oath before the vice governor.
Sanchez’s running mate, former councilor Hilario Davide III and Congressman-elect Tomas Osmeña also graced the occasion.
While Sanchez calls for unity, Osmeña yesterday took the opportunity to criticize Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.
Osmeña said that Garcia failed to provide good services to the people in the province.
“Mao kini ang rason nga ang mga mulopyo gikan sa probinsya, nia karon sa Cebu City,” Osmena said. –THE FREEMAN
