PGMA honored with her pa's statue in Danao City park

CEBU, Philippines - The officials of Danao City yesterday honored outgoing President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in the inauguration of the newly completed park and boardwalk which was named after her late father, former president Diosdado Macapagal.

Arroyo led the cutting of ribbon and the unveiling of the P24-million park.

Outgoing Danao City Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III said that naming the park after the late father of Arroyo was in recognition of her big contribution to the development of the city.

It was also their way of thanking the outgoing president for the numerous projects that her administration has poured into the City of Danao.

The president was flanked by outgoing Tourism Secretary Joseph Ace Durano, Mayor Durano, Mayor Ramon Durano Jr. and Rep. Ramon Red Durano VI in the unveiling of the statue of the late president Macapagal.

According to Mayor Durano, among the projects given by Arroyo to Danao City was the Durano-Macapagal Fish Port. He said that the project has now addressed the problems of the fishermen and those engaged in selling fish from neighboring cities and municipalities and provinces.

“Madam President, ang Durano-Macapagal fish port dako kayo ug ikatabang dili lang sa kalambuan sa Dakbayan sa Danao kon dili sa mga negosyante nga nalambigit sa industriya’, Mayor Durano said.

The mayor also cited the Roro Port in Danao City which contributed to the development of tourism industry of Camotes Island.

Rep. Durano on the other hand said that the completion of the Cansaga Bay North Coastal Road project has also opened the door of the business opportunities in the fifth district.

The Duranos said that even if Arroyo’s term will end on June 30 but she will be remembered forever by the people of the fifth district.

The president did not deliver a speech but she told Secretary Durano that she was happy that her projects have been acknowledged.

Aside from the inauguration of the newly completed park, the president also administered the oath taking of the newly elected officials of Danao and the municipalities of the fifth district.

Among those who took their oath before Arroyo were Rep. Durano, Danao City Mayor Ramon Durano Jr. and Vice Mayor Ramonito Durano III.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
