Dumpit's motion for bail opposed

CEBU, Philippines - The prosecution has opposed the motion for bail filed by the controversial policeman, Adonis Dumpit, who is facing a murder case over the death of a suspected robber six years ago.

Ombuds-man prosecutor Alfred Yann Augis said that the evidence against Dumpit is strong enough that the court should deny his plea for bail. Augis said they have sufficiently established thru testimonial and documentary evidence that the accused is guilty of the crime of murder.

Dumpit, through lawyer Julius Caesar Entice, asked the court to grant him bail arguing that the evidence of the prosecution is weak. In his motion, Dumpit claimed that the prosecution “miserably failed to prove the elements of the crime of murder beyond reasonable doubt.”

The defense cited the alleged inconsistencies in the testimonies of the five prosecution witnesses. But the prosecution said that they have proven the crime more than enough in the testimony of Andres Satorre and the medico legal findings.

Satorre testified in court that victim Ronron Go was unarmed and in no position to inflict harm to Dumpit when he was shot.

The defense was given 10 days to file their rejoinder on the opposition to their motion for bail. Dumpit is currently detained at the headquarters of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-7 following his surrender after a warrant of arrest was issued against him for murder.

He was accused of killing 17-year-old suspected robber Ronron Go in December 14, 2004.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
