Hiring of additional OBO personnel recommended

CEBU, Philippines - The mayor’s management team has recommended for the approval of the request for additional technical personnel of the Office of the Building Officials.

Engr. Rene Sanapo who was tasked to study and evaluate the request made by OBO chief Josefa Ylanan recommended for the approval of the hiring of 15 additional technical personnel for OBO.

Ylanan earlier requested for additional architects and civil engineers to augment OBO’s existing 12 personnel. It was not clear however who will approve the request, whether it will be outgoing Mayor Tomas Osmeña or incoming Mayor Michael Rama.

Ylanan uses OBO’s lack of personnel as an excuse why her office failed to perform its mandate to the fullest. The mayor said he did not know the situation because there was also no request that reached his office.

However, Ylanan claimed that she has made numerous requests already for the past years but none of them was acted upon. She believed that her requests were just kept under the table by some of her fellow department heads.

Ylanan said her office really needs additional technical personnel for them to be able to inspect ongoing constructions in the city to prevent future accidents. (THE FREEMAN)
