Two men shot dead in Cebu City

CEBU, Philippines - Two men were killed on the spot after they were shot in separate incidents in Cebu City dawn yesterday.

Rizalino Anoba Lansang, 31, was shot dead allegedly by his neighbor Vicente Nabua Abangan, 41, a farmer, past 4 am yesterday in sitio Lower Torre, Barangay Inayawan.

Responding policemen saw the victim sprawled at the foot of a bridge with a gunshot wound on his head.

Lansang’s parents Leoncio and Leureana said their family is currently in conflict with the family of the suspect. They suspect the ongoing dispute was the motive of the killing.

The couple said they filed cases for malicious mischief, qualified trespass to dwelling, physical injuries and robbery against the Abangan family.

Abangan was later arrested during a hot pursuit operation and was turned over to the homicide section of the Cebu city Police Office. Lansang’s remains lie at the Eternal Funeral Homes.

Meanwhile, a still unidentified man was shot dead by an unidentified motorcycle-riding man at corner Magallanes and F. Gonzales Streets, Baangay Sto. Niño past 1am yesterday.

Vicente Edaño, 42, a laborer residing in Barangay Mambaling, told the police he was standing near the crime scene when he heard a gunshot.

When he checked the area, he reportedly saw a man with a gun boarding a motorcycle, which fled towards the Carbon Market. He then saw the victim slumped to the ground with a gunshot wound on the left side of his head. 

He immediately reported the incident a barangay tanod of Barangay Ermita. The victim’s body was taken to the St. Francis Funeral Homes. —  THE FREEMAN
