CEBU, Philippines - A man mistaken for a gang member was shot to death by members of a rival gang in sitio Tribunal in barangay Centro last Sunday night.
Anthony Cabahug, 22, a resident of the place, was still able to run a few meters away from his attackers after sustaining a gunshot on his back which went through his chest and sought help from passers-by.
PO2 Marino Lofranco of the Investigation and Detection Management Bureau (IDMB) of the Mandaue City Police Office said that at around 8 p.m. last Sunday, Cabahug together with his friend Glyndol Garbo, 14, noticed they were being followed by three men while they were walking along Zamora Street near a fastfood outlet in barangay Centro.
Lofranco said that as Cabahug was about to confront the three men, one of them took out a gun and shot him.
Although wounded, Cabahug ran, with Garbo behind him.
The three men easily caught up with them and this time Garbo was shot at, the bullet hitting on the arm, while the already wounded Cabahug collapsed.
Cabahug and Garbo were taken to the Cortes General Hospital but Cabahug died hours later while Garbo is now in stable condition.
Lofranco said witnesses said the three men had suspected Cabahug and Garbo to be members of the Bloods gang. Their attackers belong to rival gang Crips.
Cabahug's body was taken to the St. Anne Funeral parlor in barangay Ibabao. The IDMB has requested for an autopsy.
A slug was found in the crime scene and taken to the PNP laboratory to determine the gun used. (FREEMAN NEWS)
