City plans another Mambaling flyover

CEBU, Philippines - Another flyover on top of the one being constructed in Barangay Mambaling this city is to rise soon, this time it will turn left to the South Road Properties in response to the request of the Cebu City government to address the projected traffic once development starts in the area.

Department of Public Works and Highways-7 assistant director Edgar Tabacon said that they have included in their budget proposal for 2011 another P100 million or more for the project.

Tabacon said that DPWH-7 came up with this plan after realizing that the design of the flyover under construction will be difficult to alter since construction has started.

The city council last month asked the DPWH for a possible alteration of the design of the flyover to address the future urban demand since they projected that 10 years from now, the SRP will have more traffic than going straight to the South of Cebu.

It was City Planning and Development coordinator Paul Villarete who brought up the idea.

There was supposed to be a dialogue between the DPWH and the city government but Tabacon said he is still waiting for the call from Villarete regarding the matter.

Tabacon said that though they have not talked with officials of the city, the regional office has already coordinated with the city engineering district where they come up with the proposal to just construct another floor turning left to the SRP in the future.

He said that the approval for the 2001 budget might come during the first quarter. By then, they hope to start the construction immediately after the budget becomes available.

“Mas maayo sad na idugang na lang kay katong atong budget last time di man maka-accommodate ana nga structure. So mauna gyud ang flyover, then ang left-turning na flyover, sa 2011 na nga funding,” Tabacon said.

“So what will happen is there will be another level para wala sya’y conflict, it will not interfere with those coming from the SRP going to Mambaling. Those from the city going to SRP will now take the top flyover,” he added. — Jessica Ann R. Pareja/BRP   (FREEMAN NEWS)
