Internet café robbed, some items recovered

- Garry B. Lao -

CEBU, Philippines - Three men broke into an internet café in barangay Buagsong, Cordova town yesterday morning and fled with P500,000 worth of computer sets and other things with value.

Cordova police chief Senior Inspector Felix Pacaldo said the burglars deliberately parked their vehicle near the shop to obscure them from view while forcing their way into the store using a bolt cutter.

The Pinknet Café is owned by Ma. Theresa Jumao-as.

Witnesses, who noticed three men hastily leaving the crime scene in a taxi, took down the taxi’s plate number, GXF 165.

Jumao-as said at least 16 computer sets with flat screens, a digital camera, and other several computer supplies were missing.

The police immediately went to work, locating the owner of the taxi with the help of the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

Pacaldo said seven computer sets and a digital camera were recovered in barangay Ermita and arrested a certain Ronilo Bermejo, 40, a resident of barangay Sambag II, Cebu City.

It was found out later that Bermejo was at the wheel of the taxi when the crime was in progress.

Bermejo said he was at that time with a certain “Ramsy” and another person, which he did not identify.

In Lapu-Lapu City, the Akyat-Bahay robbery gang, taking advantage of the heavy downpour yesterday dawn, struck again, breaking into two houses in separate areas.

Businessman Peter and Kim Valcarcel of sitio Humay Humay, barangay Gun-ob, lost P300, a cellular phone, and a rice cooker.

The break-in was presumed to have taken place between 1:30 a..m. to 2 a.m.

The robbers destroyed a window’s plastic screen to get in.

An hour after, another robbery was reported to the Theft and Robbery Section (TRS) in Greenfields Subdivision, barangay Pajo.

Edwin Amores, 28, said someone took his cellular phone by entering a window of his house.

The police are now investigating the case.  - THE FREEMAN
