San Fernando College to open June 16

-

CEBU, Philippines - Indigent families in San Fernando town can now send their students to college as the San Fernando College will open on June 16.

First district Rep. Eduaro R. Gullas, in an interview, said that two years ago he and Mayor Lakambini Reluya had thought of the plan, and recently the Cebu Technical University agreed to have a satellite school there, bringing in all its facilities and teachers to the new school.

And “definitely” this June, we will have our first batch of enrollees for the San Fernando College, he said.

The first course offerings, Gullas said, are Bachelor in Elementary Education major in General Education, Bachelor in Education major in

English and Bachelor of Science in Information Technology — a “ladderized” curriculum — major in Computer Technology.

There is no exact amount yet as to how much the fees per unit would be but the congressman has assured that it is “very affordable” so it would not be hard on the working class families.

Since the opening of classes is nearing, Gullas said applicants will have to present their report cards upon taking the entrance test which is set this Saturday — June 5 — at the town hall’s second floor.

The fee for this is P150.

And since they will have to construct the building yet on a 5,000 square meter propery donated by the Benedicto brothers, Mayor Reluya said the barangay hall in South Poblacion will temporarily serve as classrooms for the first batch of SFC students.

Reluya said the new college will be a “great help” to the students in her town who can not afford to study in colleges or universities in Cebu City, which is 29 kilometers away.

Meanwhile, the congressman has assured that the school would sustain with or without the support of the new administration as he has already specified in the memorandum of agreement to be entered into

by CTU and himself in the coming days that it will be funded through his Priority Development and Assistance Fund (PDAF).

Reluya was defeated by outgoing Vice Mayor Antonio Canoy in the mayoral race last elections.

Gullas said there had already been attempts to stop this project from pushing through, but dared “just let them try.”

The SFC is Gullas’ third college in his district, the first being the Talisay City College which was opened in 2004, and the second is the Sibonga Community College,  stablished last year. (FREEMAN NEWS)
