College for poor high school grads a priority - Luigi

CEBU, Philippines - Sixth District Congressman-elect Gabriel Luigi Quisumbing will focus on sending to college poor, but deserving students in his district - an assurance he made during a meeting with his political leaders.

Quisumbing said he decided to give focus on education after he learned during his campaign that many high school graduates in Mandaue City to pursue a college education because of financial constraints.

Because of this, many of them ended up as sales personnel in malls and department stores in Cebu City or factory workers at the Mactan Export Processing Zone in Lapu-Lapu City.

Parents-Teachers Associations in Mandaue City and the neighboring towns of Cordova and Consolacion supported the plan.

Aside from education, Quisumbing also announced that he will establish a center to assist graduates from the different universities who are looking for employment. — THE FREEMAN
