Man gets six years for gun

- Lesley Caminade-Vestil -

CEBU, Philippines - The court sentenced a man to six years in prison for illegal possession of firearm five years ago.

In finding Dante Cabrera guilty of the crime, Regional Trial Court Branch 5 Judge Douglas Marigomen also slapped him with a P30,000 fine.

During the trial, the prosecution presented PO1 Roy Lofranco and PO2 Rico Emperwa, both of Talisay City Police Station, as witnesses.

In his statement, Lofranco said that at dawn on May 11, 2005, they responded to an armed person alarm following a report of a concerned citizen.

Upon arrival at the scene, Lofranco said they saw Cabrera with a .357 revolver and brought him to their station for questioning.

During the cross-examination, Lofranco testified that the accused was sitting along the pavement during his arrest.

The court found that the prosecution has sufficient evidence enough to convict the accused.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
