- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines - A 16-year-old boy met his untimely death when an unidentified person shot him several times for still unknown reason in Sitio Fatima, Barangay Basak-Pardo, Cebu City past 1 a.m. yesterday.

An hour before the incident, a motorcycle-for-hire driver was also shot at several times by a fellow driver in front of JY Square on Salinas Drive, Barangay Lahug.

Residents in Barangay Basak-Pardo said they only heard several bursts of gunfire and later saw the fatality identified as Nelmart Gabuya alias “Prince” sprawling on the ground in a small alley with multiple gunshot wounds to the different parts of his body.

Nobody among the residents reportedly saw the suspect or has an idea of what was his or her motive. It was also the first time they saw the victim in the place as he was a resident of Barangay Cogon-Pardo.

Police recovered eight empty shells of caliber .380 and another two empty shells of a caliber 45 pistol from the crime scene.

The police are still clueless as to the motive of the incident and who are behind it.

The victim’s body was taken to St. Francis Funeral Homes.

Meanwhile, in Lahug, Leoncio Ortiz, 42, a motorcycle-for-hire driver and a resident of Barangay Sirao was shot and hit to his right elbow by a certain Kadre, also a driver, who was with an unidentified companion.

Ortiz alleged that he was parking his motorcycle while waiting for passengers when the assailant, on board a motorcycle with a pillion, stopped near him.

With no apparent reason, the Kadre’s companion alighted from the vehicle and shot him several times before speeding away.

The victim was taken to the Cebu City Medical Center.

Ortiz alleged that Kadre has a grudge against him. — THE FREEMAN
