City to build sports complex at the Taboan Public Market

- Rene U. Borromeo -

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City government is planning to build a sports complex at the second floor of the Taboan Public Market in order to promote sports among the youth.

South district councilor Joey Daluz III, chairman of the Committee on Budget and Finance of the Cebu City Council, said he proposed the construction of a sports complex inside the Taboan market to utilize the place for sports activities.

The city’s Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) under Engr. Nicomedes Leonor had already prepared a budgetary estimate for the project that was presented before the city legislators during their session last Wednesday.

Leonor said the project will cost P13.1 million for the 1,310 square-meter floor area at P10,000 per square meter.

The expenses involves demolition works, structural concrete, roofing and trusses, tile works, painting works, dry wall partitions, electrical works and the basketball court.

Some of the youths who are living near the Taboan public market were so happy when they heard of the city’s plan to convert the market’s second floor area into a sports complex.

“Nindot kaayo na nga plano aron duna nay lugar nga makaduwa ang mga batan-on. Makakwarta man usab ang City Hall ana kay mahimo man sila nga magpaabang sa moduwa sama sa ubang sports complex,” said a 17-year-old resident along Lakandula Street.

Daluz will see to it that the project will be started and completed within this year.  (FREEMAN NEWS)
