Martinez bids farewell to San Remigiohanons

CEBU, Philippines - Outgoing San Remigio town Mayor Mariano Martinez has bid farewell to his constituents during the staging of its third Lapyahan Festival last Sunday where he enumerated his major accomplishments in his nine years stint as town mayor.

“I will leave the post of mayor with a heavy heart. I would be a hypocrite if I did not admit that I wished the results of the past election were different. But we have to move on because our town’s progress demands that we do so,” Martinez said.

Martinez completed his three terms as municipal mayor but failed to get a seat in the provincial board during in the last election. His son, Miguel, however got elected as vice-mayor of San Remigio.

He enumerated some of his legacy projects which include the new and modern municipal building, bigger Hagnaya port and its passenger terminal, birthing center and TESDA Training Center.

Martinez also mentioned the eight marine sanctuaries and over 350 hectares of reforested land.

They also have botica in every barangay, a water system in every barangay, an expanded electrification program and road openings that connect the far flung mountain barangays with the town center.

They created a task force to improve roads, computerized municipal services and the establishment of e-center for San Remigiohanons to be connected to the rest of world. Martinez also made mention the creation of the Lapyahan Festival.

“My only regret is spending time away from my family to pursue my dream of serving as many people and doing as much good as I can as mayor of San Remigio,” he further said.

“I might not be able to do so as many improvements as I can but I will certainly help in my capacity as a private citizen. Rest assured that I will help move San Remegio forward in my own small way,” Martinez ended. — Gregg M. Rubio, Correspondent/FPL (FREEMAN NEWS)
