Team Mandaue set to hold torch parade

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - The reclamation area in Mandaue City will be brighter tonight as supporters of Team Mandaue of the Liberal Party headed by reelectionist Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes will march with their torches from three different points at 7 p.m. and converge at the rally site in front of Parkmall for their grand rally.

Ernie Manatad, coordinator of the activity said there are three starting areas: Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex, in front of Hall of Justice, and in front of Julies-Giordini area.

“We are targetting 40,000 participants from the 27 barangays,” said Manatad.

Inspired by the very good turnout in their rally yesterday in Barangay Opao, the bailiwick of former Mayor Thadeo Ouano, Manatad expressed confidence that they can hit the target.

Former Chief Justice Hilario Davide, Jr, his son, Hilario Davide III who is running for governor and his runningmate reelectionist Vice Governor Greg Sanchez will attend the activity.

According to Manatad Kris Aquino, sister of LP presidential standard bearer Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino, has been invited to grace the event but has not received yet any confirmation.

To provide entertainment, local artists will be interpreting the jingle of Mayor Cortes.

A power point presentation will precede the speech of Mayor Cortes.

To provide drama to the whole event, all participants will march towards the city hall as a finale and watch a fireworks display to celebrate what they said as the “victory of Mandauehanons.” - THE FREEMAN
