Slay witness killed a day before hearing

- Lesley Caminade-Vestil -

CEBU, Philippines - An alleged member of Tau Gamma fraternity was killed on the spot after he was shot several times by an unidentified person, who was believed to be a member of the rival fraternity around 4 p.m. yesterday in Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City.

Roberto Rosales Ferrer, 23, a resident of the said place, suffered gunshot wounds to different parts of his body that caused his instantaneous demise.

Based on the initial information gathered by the police, the victim was one of the witnesses in the ongoing case involving his friend, who was also allegedly shot by a member of Alpha Kappa Rho fraternity and was supposed to attend today’s hearing.

PO1 Ariel Villegas told The FREEMAN that the victim was enjoying the cold air and resting in a cottage near the Basak Elementary School together with three gay friends. Moments later, an unidentified man suddenly approached him and without any apparent reason, shot the victim several times.

According to Villegas, the three companions of Ferrer didn’t see the face of the gunman as well as the shirt that he is wearing because the incident was so sudden and they scampered away after hearing bursts of gunfire.

Responding police officers recovered from the crime scene three empty shells of caliber .45 pistol, which they believed was used in killing the victim.

Villegas said that initially, they believe that the killing of Ferrer has something to do with his being a witness in the case filed against the member of their rival fraternity. However, he added that they are still conducting further investigation to determine other possible motives of the bloody incident.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
