DepEd in Lapu-Lapu moves to new building
CEBU, Philippines - After years of holding office at the Science and Technology Education Center in Basak National High School, the Department of Education School Division now has moved to a newly constructed building it can proudly call its own.
Carmelita Dulangon, the school division superintendent in Lapu-Lapu City, said her division had been dreaming of having a building since 2004.
But it took six years to realize the dream.
“Kini gumikan sa panagusab-usab sa plano ug presyo sa materyales matag tuig hinungdan sa pagkalangay sa katukoran sa maong building,” Dulangon said.
The Division Office building, costing P35 million, was funded by the Local School Board and the city government. The new building is situated at the back of Virhen sa Regla Church.
The family of former Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Bartolome M. Dimataga attended the inauguration ceremonies last Wednesday. The lot where the building now stands was once owned by the family before it donated the land to DepEd.
Dimataga was given recognition for the donation of the 501-square meter lot.
Poblacion Brgy. Kapitan Alen Demataga, the grandson of the former mayor, expressed gratitude for the recognition given by the DepEd, saying that the city and the barangay are steadfast in their commitment to assist and support the education sector. – THE FREEMAN
