CEBU, Philippines - The Associated Labor Unions-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines has announced its support to Liberal Party standard bearer Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Quino and his runningmate Sen. Mar Roxas.

Michael Mendoza, vice president of the ALU-TUCP for the Visayas, made the announcement during yesterday’s press conference with top officers of the union.

Mendoza said the decision to support Aquino and Roxas came after a consultation with top officials of the union.

“Gitun-an nato pag-ayo sa wala pa kita mopagawas sa atong desisyon kon si kinsa gayud ang atong paluyohan pagka presidente ingon man bise presidente,” said Mendoza.

Mendoza said Noynoy’s mother, the late president Corazon Aquino, had a good relationship with the labor sector.

“Sa atong pagpaluyo nila ni Noynoy ug Mar, wala kita mosulti nila nga mangayo kita og pabor kon sila mao na ang molingkod sa Malacañang. Ang atong gipangayo mao nga patas ang ilang pagtan-aw sa labor sector,” said Mendoza.

Mendoza said that they believe that Noynoy, like his mother, will also show concern to the labor sector once elected president.

But he clarified that the union is not supporting Lakas presidential candidate Gilberto Teodoro, who has the support of his father.

The older Mendoza and Teodoro’s father were friends during their stint at the Social Security System.

Today, ALU-TUCP is expected to announce the names of senatorial candidates that it is supporting.

Early this year, Mendoza was appointed by President Gloria Arroyo as commissioner of the Cebu Port Authority (CPA). – THE FREEMAN
