Mandaue SP blamed for slashing budgets

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - The administration of Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes has blamed the city council over the unattended dilapidated roads in the city due to the slashing of budgets.

Earlier, officials of the Greenhills Subdivision Association in barangay Casuntingan, Mandaue City expressed their dismay over the city administration’s failure to act upon their requests to have a subdivision road repaired.

Raul Lumapas, who is the president of the Homeowners subdivision, said that since the homeowners were ignored by the city government, they instead went to 6th district representative and mayoralty aspirant Nerissa Soon Ruiz for assistance.

Lumapas said the association had repeatedly sent requests for assistance these were never acted upon.

However, city administrator Briccio Boholst yesterday said that if only the city had enough funding, there could have been no delay in the repairs of some of the city’s dilapidated roads.

“Niadto lang 2008 ug 2009, more that P200 million ang gi-slash sa council. So, nahigtan ang kamot sa mayor ug way mahimo,” Boholst said.

The once dilapidated Rosal and Dama de noche road was paved spending P1million from Rep. Ruiz.

The asphalted road measures 170 meters long and 7 .3 meters wide.

Ruiz said the road inside the subdivision is now under the care of the city government after it was donated to it.

Boholst said it has to be established yet whether the road was already donated to the city. (FREEMAN NEWS)
