City starts paying funeral parlors

- Jessica Ann R. Pareja -

CEBU, Philippines -   After four funeral parlors complained to the city for its failure to pay its dues which prompted the temporary suspension of the burial assistance in some barangays, the city accounting office and barangay officials are now rushing the process for the release of the payment. In fact, several funeral parlors have started receiving what the city owes them.

City accountant Arlene Rentuza said that in cluster II, led by barangay Tisa, San Fernando Funeral Homes have received the payment in exchange for its services in the amount of P167,000 after the city accounting issued the accountant’s advice for the disbursement voucher last April 20.

Yesterday, Rentuza said they have also cleared the voucher for St. Francis Funeral Homes and Maturan Memorial Homes which will receive P202,500 and P45,600, respectively.

Barangay Guadalupe submitted their voucher last April 6 and the accounting department approved it for the issuance of accountant’s advice last April 22 after all requirements have been complied with.

In Guadalupe, payments are to be given to St. Francis Funeral Homes amounting to P140,000 and Eternal Funeral Homes amounting to P80,000.

Barangay Basak San Nicolas submitted their voucher last April 16, but due to lack of or invalid requirements discovered by the auditors, the city accounting suspended the processing last April 21.

The barangay, however, has not submitted the lacking requirements so Eternal Funeral Homes servicing in Basak San Nicolas will not receive its P248,000 payment until the barangay is able to comply with the requirements.

Rentuza said that if the barangay will just comply with all the documents required, the processing will not even take 15 days at the accounting department especially now that some modifications have been made to the original list of requirements that funeral parlors, claimants and the barangays must comply with.

She already met with the auditors to brief them about the modifications agreed by the city and the funeral parlors during the meeting called by Councilor Jose “Joey” Daluz last Tuesday.

The modifications were done to make it easy for the barangays and the claimants to process the disbursement vouchers to pay the servicing parlors.  (FREEMAN NEWS)
