Ruiz, Luigi sign deal

- Flor Z. Perolina -

Hundreds of tricycle drivers in Mandaue City witnessed last week the signing of a covenant by sixth district Rep. Nerissa Soon Ruiz and sixth district congressional aspirant Luigi Quisumbing expressing their intention to allow the continuance of the operation of tricycle-for-hire in Mandaue City should they win in the election.

The signing was held at a gathering at the PCIC-Norkis Compound at A.S. Fortuna Street in Mandaue City.

Residents in more than half of the 27 barangays in the city still depend on the tricycle as their main mode of public transport while other areas are being serviced by multicabs-for-hire, “trisikad,” and “habal-habal.” These areas include barangays Bakilid, Banilad, Tawason, Cubacub, Casili, Jagobiao, Basak, Ibabao, Guizo, Mantuyong, and Subangdako.

Tricycle operation requires a local franchise from the local government unit. Ruiz and Quisumbing have been falsely accused by their political opponents of planning to abolish the operation of tricycles.

Quisumbing brushed aside the allegation saying it is unwise for him to do so since their family business heavily relies on the sale of motorcycles.  (FREEMAN NEWS)
