TUCP urges power investors to ensure ecological balance

- Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon -

CEBU, Philippines - The TUCP Partylist, the largest worker’s party in the Philippines, urged Global Energy and all other power investors operating and entering Cebu to ensure that their operations will not disturb the ecological balance in the province.

TUCP Rep. Raymond Mendoza said that some parts of the country like Visayas and Mindanao have energy deficiency caused by the failed privatization policy and there is need to build more power capacity to avert the power crisis particularly in the Visayas region.

“However, we must not allow power generators to destroy our environment,” Mendoza emphasized.

For his part, Nacionalista Party senatorial hopeful and spokesperson Gilbert Remulla expressed his concern on the issue of rotating brownouts in Metro Manila, Cebu and other urbanized cities in the country.

Remulla said that Filipinos should be alarmed by these recent occurrences because they are indications of the dwindling sources of energy in the country.

According to him, these sudden incidents of power outages should move the government to tap the country’s vast renewable energy sources by infusing state incentives to investors.

“This should be a wake-up call for everyone, especially the government to take action on this looming power crisis,” Remulla said. (FREEMAN NEWS)
