Gwen, Glenn vow not to get married

- Marjun A. Baguio -

CEBU, Philippines - Reelectionist Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and her runningmate, Glenn Anthony Soco publicly declared Sunday not to get married, at least not with each other.

Soco said that part of his resolution when he decided to seek public office is to say no first to marriage, but did not categorically explain if the marriage he meant was something to do with “romantic affairs.”

“Si Gwen, she won’t get married, as she’s already married to the province (of Cebu). Even Gakit (Provincial Board Member Wenceslao Gakit), dili man gyud na siya magminyo,” he said during a political campaign in the town of Cordova.

“Even I, dili na pud magminyo. DNM na mi, ‘Dili Na Magminyo,’” he laughingly said, much to the surprise of the crowd.

Soco said that when elected, he will support the project of creating a bridge connecting Cordova to mainland Cebu, and if possible, connect it with the province.

He claimed that administration presidential candidate, Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro, has even showed support to the idea.

“Makalaom kamo kung tagaan ko sa suwerte, akong puhunan akong edukasyon, akong laing puhonan akong reputasyon,” Soco said.

Governor Garcia, on the other hand, introduced Soco to the crowd as “my handsome runningmate.”

“Gawas nga gwapo, ulitawo pa gyud,” she said, to which one of the spectators commented by saying they “make a good match.”

“Kamo gyud, inyo gyud kong ipa-blush, nipuwa na baya ni akong aping,” the governor teasingly told the crowd.

Garcia and Soco have been rumored to be “romantically linked” but the governor, instead of making the issue a liability, gamely showed to the media and the electorate that their tandem is “strictly politics.”

But in her speech in Cordova’s political rally, Garcia said that more than anything else, her candidacy is based on platform and her achievements as the incumbent governor.

“Ang akong buhat na lang ang pasultion. Kung si Gwen mosaad, tumanon gayud,” she stressed.

Despite reports that One Cebu is loosing allies, she emphasized that their party is still intact. “Ang One Cebu naay palabra de honor,” she added.

After her speech, Cordova Mayor Adelino Sitoy said that Garcia’s leadership would be elevated to a more effective governance when Soco gets elected.

“Mouban ta ni Gwen ug Glenn sa paraiso. Nahuman ang tanan,” Sitoy ended.

Other candidates, who visited first Mandaue City to reach out to voters, before going to Cordova town were congressional candidate Luis Gabriel “Luigi Quisumbing,” Provincial Board Member candidate Thadeo “Teddy” Ouano and his father, former Mandaue City mayor Alfredo “Pedong” Ouano.

They were also joined by local candidates of Cordova led by incumbent mayor Adelino Sitoy, who is running unopposed, vice mayoral candidate Dody Jumao-as and the rest of their slate.
