Man wanted for rape falls

CEBU, Philippines - The Investigative and Detective Management Bureau of the Mandaue City Police Office arrested midnight yesterday a man who has long been wanted by the law for the alleged raped of his daughter in the past.

Jose Roger Abdullah, 47, married, and a resident of Dasco Road in barangay Paknaan in Mandaue City was arrested inside his rented house in sitio Torrel, barangay Canjulao in Lapu-Lapu City midnight last Monday.

The suspect had a standing warrant of arrest for rape charges which was filed against him by his daughter in the sala of RTC Branch 55 Judge Ulric Cañete in December 11, 2008.

In her affidavit, she claimed that her father started raping her when she was nine years old until she was eleven years old while residing in Liloan town.

The girl also alleged that her father would rape her almost every night and even threatened to kill her if she told her elder sister or anybody else about it.

She said the rape continued until they moved to barangay Paknaan. The last time she was raped was on the midnight of August 11, 2008. She said she was thirteen then.

She said the following day, August 12, her elder sister, who is married to a Norwegian national, came to fetch her.

It was at this instance that she told her sister about the repeated rape. Her elder sister then accompanied her to the police to file a complaint against their father.

P/Insp Ramil Morpos, who led the arrest, said that when the case was filed in court, the man left their house to live in barangay Canjulao where he rented a room.

Morpos said the wife would even visit the man during Sundays without the knowledge of their children.

He said that although the wife knew about the rape, she allegedly tolerated it and even asked her daughter to recant her statements.

Because of this, Morpos advised the girl’s elder sister to remove the girl from the custody of their mother for the rape charges to prosper in court.

Based on the records of the IDMB, the man was No. 10 in the Most Wanted Persons list of the Mandaue City Police Office. – Flor Z. Perolina (THE FREEMAN)
