CEBU, Philippines – With major local political parties joining the bandwagon to support the candidacy of Manuel “Manny” Villar and Gilbert Teodoro for president, a member of the academe believes that it is still not the end of the show for ousted president Joseph Estrada.
Dr. Angel “Tecero” Espiritu III, a professor of Enderun College in Manila, former teacher of the University of San Carlos and son of former Department of Foreign Affairs director for Central Visayas Angel Espiritu, is in Cebu at present and is campaigning for the presidency of Estrada.
Although Espiritu clarified that he is not a spokesperson of Estrada and he is not paid to support him, he believes that there is a need to stress out and show the people the strengths of Estrada since the former president is lagging behind in the Visayas in terms of support and surveys.
According to Espiritu, he is optimistic that there would still be time to gather more support especially in Cebu and he is positive that more support would shift for Estrada in the coming weeks.
Espiritu said that as a member of the academe, he shares to his students why he believes in Estrada. He however said he does not impose on them to vote for him.
“I do not throw Estrada down to their throats but what I do is tell them my opinion and it’s up to them to decide.”
Espiritu said that he is not here to bad-name the other presidentiables but he believes in a number of disadvantages over the other candidates like Villar whom he said has spent too much already for his campaign. — AJ de la Torre/FPL (THE FREEMAN)
