Holy Week generally peaceful in Lapu-Lapu

-

CEBU, Philippines - Except for a shooting incident in barangay San Vincente, Olango Island in Lapu-Lapu City, the observance of Holy Thursday and Good Friday in the city was generally peaceful.

Police director Mariano Natuel Jr. said no major crime incidents were reported from Maundy Thursday to Black Saturday.

The Crime Against Persons desk last Friday night recorded a shooting incident which showed that one Romeo Taneo, 43, sustained a gunshot wound on his back perpetrated by still an unknown man.

Initial investigation conducted by SP02 Federick Eslit revealed that Taneo and his live-in-partner were sleeping when an unidentified man entered their house.

When he noticed the man, Taneo got up from bed to confront the intruder who was now fleeing. Taneo ran after him but the man pulled out a gun and fired at him.

Taneo was taken to Lapu-Lapu District Hospital.

Meanwhile, Natuel said that non-uniformed police still continue to be deployed near churches, terminals, and other public places until today.

Natuel said the police was placed in “full-alert” status during the Holy Week. He said police officers were barred from taking vacation leaves throughout the week to ensure that the city could respond to threats. – Garry B. Lao   (FREEMAN NEWS)
