CEBU, Philippines - Policemen and tanods will be deployed all over Lapu-Lapu City on Holy Thursday until Eastern Sunday.
Lapu-Lapu City police director Mariano Natuel Jr., in an interview with The Freeman, said the move is aimed at anticipating unlawful activities during the Lenten season, a trend which has been observed over the years.
“Naa na ta’y plan. The security details are ready,” Natuel said.
The barangays are also prepared.
Natuel said he has already ordered all police station commanders to increase police visibility especially in bus and airport terminals to ensure the public’s safety when they go back to their provinces for the long break.
Since Lapu-Lapu City is one of the vacation spots in the province, Natuel said “Task Force Turista” has been activated. The Holy Week is the time when people are expected to flock to tourist destinations.
Lapu-Lapu is considered a favorite haven of foreign visitors.
Police have urged the public to make sure their houses are securely locked when they go out to prevent burglary.
“We want to ensure that the observance of the Holy Week be as peaceful as possible,” Natuel said.
He also said checkpoints would be put up in strategic locations for good measure. – Garry B. Lao FREEMAN NEWS)
