Provincial Board member Wenceslao"Weng"Gakit, who is seeking re-election in the May 10 elections belies the report that he is leaving the "Nagkahiusang Mandauehanon" party of sixth district Rep. Nerssia Soon Ruiz, who is vying for a mayoral post, and will be supporting Mayor Jonas Cortes' "Team Mandaue."
Gakit's reaction came after a source said that the board member has not been joining the campaign sorties of the "Nagkahiusang Mandauehanon" but was instead seen attending to some affairs with Cortes.
The source who refused to be named said that how can Gakit get the support of the "Nagkahiusang Mandauehanon" if he has not been helping the group.
But Sally Malig-on, the chief of staff of Soon Ruiz, said Gakit is still with the group. It's his failure to attend the nightly campaign sorties that has created the intrigue.
"He has not been attending man gud our nightly campaign sorties despite being invited. Maybe he can sort this out with the group if he wants," Malig-on said.
Gakit yesterday said all the activities which he attends to have something to do with the office of Governor Gwendolyn Garcia .
He said it was the Governor's office that invited him, not Cortes, that he be present at the Provincial Barangay Captains Assembly last March 22 and the "Halad ni Lolo ug Lola" which were held last week at the Banilad Sports Complex and in barangay Canduman respectively.
In those two occasions, Cortes was present, he said.
Gakit said it is not true that his "no show" in the campaign sorties is already an indication of his leaving the group but its just that he has not received any schedules for the sorties.
He said that last March 26,during the start of the campaign period in the local level, he instructed his staff to coordinate with the district office of Luigi Quisumbing, who is also vying for a congressional post in the upcoming election under the One Cebu Party and Nagkaiusang Mandauehanon.
However, the only invitation he got was for the launching of Quisumbing's district office last March 27 and was not given a schedule for the group's campaign sorties.
It is the same reason why he also failed to attend the group's campaign sorties in barangay Jagobiao last Sunday.
Gakit said he is support Mayoral candidate Nerissa Soon Ruiz in the upcoming elections.
"Kay kon kinsay gituboy ni Governor Garcia mao say akong suportahan," Gakit said. —Flor Z. Perolina
