P1.4 million allocated for renovation of Comelec Cebu City offices

-

CEBU, Philippines - While the May 10 elections is fast approaching, the Cebu City government has allocated P1.4 million to be spent to renovate the offices of the Commission on Elections in the city in preparation for the expected number of people who will troop there to inquire about election-related concerns.

Mayor Tomas Osmeña has approved the resolution of the Bids and Awards Committee that declared MSDLR Construction as the lowest bidder which proposed a P1,492,033 budget for the project based on the Program of Works and Estimates prepared by the city engineering personnel.

Councilor Nestor Archival explained that considering the urgency of the project, the Bids and Awards Committee had quickly conducted the required bidding in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of Republic Act 9184, or the Government Procurement law.

The Comelec officials had requested the help of the city for the repair of their offices because they do not have the funds needed for it.

According to Archival, the scope of work stipulated in the contract includes the provision of labor, materials and other necessary equipment to complete the project the soonest as possible.

In last Wednesday’s regular session of the City Council, the legislative body has approved the resolution of Archival to allow the mayor to enter into and sign the contract between the construction company so they could quickly start the renovation of the Comelec office situated at the ground floor of WDC Building along Osmeña Boulevard.

Aside from the expenses for the renovation, the city is also the one paying the electric consumption and even provided a few sets of air-conditioning units to the city Comelec office last year. — Rene U. Borromeo/WAB(FREEMAN NEWS)
