'Wrong target' hurt in Danao shooting
CEBU, Philippines - A 17-year-old out-of-school youth was in critical condition after he was shot by three unidentified perpetrators in Rizal Street, Poblacion, Danao City the other dawn.
Arkin (not his real name), a resident of E. Olivar Street of the said city, sustained gunshot wounds on his left arm and left chest.
It was learned that at around 2 a.m., the victim together with his friend Ionn (real name withheld for being a minor), also 17 years old, bought cigarettes in a nearby store.
Suddenly, when they were about to go back, three unidentified assailants waylaid them and shot them several times for no apparent reason.
Ionn sustained a graze wound while the bullet hit Arkin’s left arm and exited through his left chest. The gunmen fled after the shooting incident. Ionn rushed Arkin to the Danao District Hospital. Arkin was later on transferred to a hospital here in Cebu City.
Responding police officers recovered an empty shell of a caliber .45 from the crime scene.
SPO4 Jose Salingua, desk officer of the Danao City Police Station, said that the target of the gunmen was Ionn and not Arkin. They were also to check whether the incident has something to do with fraternity or gang wars. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc/MEEV (FREEMAN NEWS)
