CEBU, Philippines - Two men were found dead inside their respective houses in the western town of Alegria and the southern town of Minglanilla last Saturday.
The two reportedly committed suicide after their wives left them.
In Alegria, Antonio Babor, 45, was already dead when his relatives found him hanging from the ceiling of his house in barangay Sta. Filomena past 1pm last Saturday.
Babor’s relatives told the police it was possible that the victim ended his life because of depression after his wife left him over a year ago.
They said they already noticed something different about Babor when he arrived from Toledo City last Friday. He started working as a construction worker in Toledo after his wife left him.
The next day, they left the house at 8am to work at the farm and returned to the house around 1pm for lunch. They noticed, however, that the door and windows were closed, which prompted them to ask help from their neighbors.
When the door was finally opened, they were greeted by the sight of Babor hanging lifeless from the ceiling with a rope around his neck.
Meanwhile, in Poblacion II, Minglanilla, a 21-year-old man made true his threat to his common-law-wife to kill himself if she would leave him.
Evening last Saturday, Gabriel Lenrod Dela Cerna hanged himself using a nylon rope inside his house.
Dela Cerna’s wife, Sheralyn Lavapes, reportedly left him and their two children because she could no longer stand their poverty, considering that Dela Cerna also had no permanent work.
Dela Cerna even reportedly sent a text message to his wife that he would commit suicide, but the latter reportedly just ignored the threat.
Dela Cerna’s father, who found him hanging from the ceiling, still brought him to the Minglanilla District Hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival. — Niña G. Sumacot/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
